Confusion prevails amongst Punjabi University staff, faculty over VC’s extended term; Vidhan sabha committee to visit university campus

After the end of three year term of Prof Arvind as vice chancellor of Punjabi University on April 25, 2024, Punjab government had given the charge of VC Punjabi University to KK Yadav, secretary higher education, Govt of Punjab for three months starting April 26,2024.
After the expiry of three months in July, the Punjab Governor who is also the Chancellor of the university, on the request of Punjab government had extended his term as VC Punjabi University for another two months.
As per the orders, “the governor of Punjab has given two months extension to secretary higher education to look after the duties of vice chancellor, Punjabi University for two more months or till the appointment of regular incumbent whichever is earlier”.
Today, on September 25th, 2024 his two month second extension also ends. By evening no information was received by the university authorities’ on his extension or any other orders related to the appointment of VC of the university.
Confirming the same, a senior functionary of the university on the condition of anonymity said “yes, the university has information about any extension, orders related to the appointment of the vice chancellor. We all are waiting for the update. The person added that “we all are waiting for the next orders, who will head the university.”
Meanwhile dean academic affairs Narinder Kaur Multani could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
“Even a 13 member Vidhan sabha committee, headed by Dr Ravjot Singh is also going to visit Punjabi university on September 26,2024. As per the schedule of the committee they have a meeting plan with the vice chancellor and other officials, students of the university. Now, it will seen who will represent from the Punjabi University in the absence of vice chancellor” said another faculty member.
Another faculty member said “this is for the first time that such a situation has occurred in the university when no one will head the university on the beginning of new academic session. “

The state government has already invited application for the post of regular vice chancellor. But, till date nothing has happened on this. For the last five months, KK Yadav, IAS, secretary higher education Punjab government is temporarily looking after the duties of vice chancellor.
