Another Punjab IAS goes on deputation to Chandigarh; appointed as UT finance secretary

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for appointment of Diprava Lakra, IAS(PB:2005) to the post of Finance Secretary, UT, Chandigarh on inter-cadre deputation from Punjab cadre to AGUMT cadre for period of three years.
Diprava Lakra is B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He belongs to the State of Orissa . He began his career as Sub Divisional Magistrate, Dhuri, and had also been served as a Special Secretary (Home), Director Welfare Department, Punjab. He was posted as Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, before being posted as DC Bathinda. He has also served as DC in Jharkhand for three years on inter-cadre deputation in 2010.
In August this year, the Punjab Government had sent a panel of three IAS officers to the UT Administration for the above said . Punjab cadre IAS officers Basant Garg, Diprava Lakra and Daljit Singh Mangat were in the race for the above post. The post fell vacant after the Administration relieved the then UT Finance Secretary Namdeorao Zade, a Punjab cadre IAS officer, on June 19.
In the last week of June, Punjab had sent a panel of three Punjab cadre IAS officers to fill the post: Amit Dhaka (2006 batch), Mohammed Tayyab (2007 batch) and Amit Kumar (2008 batch). However, the Union ministry of home affairs had rejected this panel and requested a fresh one. Following this, the UT administration had sought a fresh panel from the Punjab government.

Earlier this month, on October 5,2024 the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet had approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for of the Ministry of Home Affairs for the appointment of Amit Kumar, IAS (PB-2008) to the post of the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, UT of Chandigarh on Inter-Cadre deputation from Punjab Cadre to AGMUT Cadre, for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
