World University students enthusiastically participated in the Cultural Festival

A cultural festival was organized in Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib by Department of English in collaboration with Dean Students’ Welfare. During this event, students from different departments of the University participated in a number of folk games of Punjab like kikli, rassi tappa, geetey, laatu, stapu, pithu garam, rumal chukna, rassa kassi etc. with full zeal and exuberance.

The faculty and staff members of the University also enjoyed event while participating in these games. The participants presented replica of a Punjab’s village house to explore the colorful life style of our ancestors.

The students also presented folk songs and performances with folk instruments during a prize distribution ceremony at the end of the festival. The delightful performance of giddha and bhangra by the students mesmerized the audience. During the ceremony, Dr. Swaraj Raj, Head, Department of English extended his warm welcome to the University authorities and the faculty members. He said that the motive of such events is to aware the young generation about their rich heritage and culture.

The guest of honour, Dr. R.K. Sharma, Dean Research, lauded the efforts of department of English for successful organization of such a grand event of cultural importance. The chief guest Dr. Pritpal Singh, Registrar, while addressing the audience said that the participation of students in co-curricular and cultural activities contribute a lot in their harmonious and all around development. He thanked and expressed his gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sukhdarshan Singh Khehra for his guidance and directions for organizing such events so that inter-personal skills of the students are sharpened along with their academic development.

During the occasion, Heads and In-charges of various departments along with the faculty members were present. Dr. Sarpreet Singh, Dean Students’ Welfare presented the vote of thanks and congratulated the winners.
