A 2022–2025 Review: AAP’s Punjab Rajya Sabha MPs Utilised 27% of MPLAD Funds

According to the data disseminated by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, the six Rajya Sabha members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from Punjab have exhibited a rather parsimonious utilization of their Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds, expending only 27% of the allocations at their disposal (2022-25).
Among all seven AAP Rajya Sabha members from Punjab, Balbir Singh Seechewal stands out as the only one who has spent more than 50% of his MPLAD funds.
Seechewal was allocated ₹14.72 crore, of which he has utilized ₹9.49 crore.
The data is available for only six members.
As per the records, Raghav Chadha was allocated the highest amount of ₹18.82 crore—but has spent only ₹70.86 lakh, the lowest among all.
The tenure of all six incumbents will culminate in 2028.

However, on July 1, 2025, Sanjeev Arora, who currently serves as a Punjab Cabinet Minister, resigned from the Rajya Sabha after being elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Ludhiana West.
Following his resignation, by-elections were held, and Rajinder Gupta, Chairman of Trident Group was elected unopposed to the vacant seat.
