A poet, a bureaucrat, an academician Dr Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia died at 84

Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia is a leading Punjabi poet, a bureaucrat, Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University, Founder Vice Chancellor of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib and President of a leading organization Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, Chandigarh died today at his residence at the age of 84.

The family said he was normal, slept last night but didn’t get up in the morning. He was cremated today evening. As per the family members, Bhog and Antim Ardas for the departed soul will be held at Gurudwara Sahib sector34, Chandigarh on Thursday from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM

He has a post-graduate degree in English and earned his doctorate for his thesis on New conception of Reality, and got into the Punjab Civil Service. He came on deputation to Punjabi University, Patiala for some time as Director, Planning and Development (Punjabi). He worked as Director, Punjab State University Text Book Board, and Secretary, Punjab Education Board for brief terms

He remained Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University from 1999-2002.

He conceptualized and started of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Fatehgarh sahib, which  was set up in 2011to commemorate the historic event of 400th Anniversary of compilation and the first installation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Situated at Fatehgarh Sahib, a place sanctified by the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzada’s of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji

He is President of Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, which came into existence in the year 1966 in the celebration, at national and international levels, of the 300th Birth Anniversary of GURU GOBIND SINGH, the tenth Prophet of Sikh religion. The late Maharaja Yadvindra Singh of Patiala and the Late Ujjal Singh, Governor of Punjab, served the Foundation as its first President and Vice President, respectively.

The main objective of the Foundation is to propagate the universal humanistic values and traditions of Sikhism in general, and the world historical mission of GURU GOBIND SINGH in particular.
