Eminent educationist Shakuntala Devi Gupta, wife of Chemistry fame Late Prof. R. S. Gupta, known for her invaluable contributions to the field of education, passed away in the early hours of January 29, 2025, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya.

She was 87 years old and had been battling Glomus Jugular Tumor for an extended period.

Gupta held several distinguished positions throughout her career, leaving a lasting impact on the education system. She served as the District Education Officer (DEO) of Bathinda and later as the Principal of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) from 1993 to 1996. Prior to this, she was the Principal of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Mall Road (1986-1993), where her dedication and efforts played a significant role in shaping the structure of school education in the region.

She is survived by her son, Prof. Rajesh Gupta,Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU) and two daughters residing in New Delhi.

To honor her memory, a Shradhanjali Ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 2, at Mata Vaishno Devi Mandir, Patel Nagar, Bathinda.

Family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers will join and pay their final respects to the esteemed academician.
