Acrimonious scenes were witnessed during the first meeting of the Municipal Council Rupnagar held for the first time after the assembly elections in the presence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Rupnagar Dinesh Chadha.

The meeting  was chaired by Municipal Council President Sanjay Verma Bele wale. During the debate on the annual budget of the council, Congress councillor Ashok Wahi raised the issue of less recovery  of house / property tax and water / sewerage bills during the last one year. He said that the executive officer BHajan Chand  and the president are responsible for this and action should be taken against them.He demanded to record  these views in the proceeding register..T%his led to headed exchanges between Wahi and Executive officer.

As per Wahi’s demand, executive officer Bhajan Chand agreed to write his(Bhajan Chand’s)  name in proceeding register as per the demand of Wahi but not the name of the president but Ashok Wahi insisted on getting the name written.

Later on, Councillors supporting President Sanjay Verma opposed Ashok Wahi and said that the name of the President would not be written in the proceeding  register . Another Congress councilor, Pomy Soni got up from his seat and walked towards the president, where he had a heated argument with the president and the other  Congress councilors.

Acrimonious scenes witnessed during MC meeting in the presence of the MLA . During the meeting MLA Dinesh Chadha said that the matter raised by the councilors should be recorded in the proceeding register.

Dinesh Chadha raised the issue of low revenue from advertisements to the Municipal Council during the last one year and said that a solid policy needs to be formulated to increase the revenue in this regard.

During the meeting annual budget of Rs. 14.24 crore for the year 2002-23 was passed.

Before the meeting began, newly elected MLA Dinesh Chadha was welcomed by the President and Councillors.

On the occasion Dinesh Chadha said that all the councilors should  work for the providing f basic amenities in the city and the government would extend full support for this purpose.
