Advocate General (AG) appointed by Punjab government

Advocate Maninderjit Singh Bedi was today appointed as new Advocate General (AG) of Punjab. He is the fourth AG appointed by the incumbent government , after Senior Advocate Gurminder Singh Garry resigned from the post.

A notification issued late evening stated that, “The Governor of Punjab in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 165 of the Constitution of India, is pleased to appoint Sh. Maninderiit Singh Bedi S/o Inderjit Singh Bedi…as Advocate General for the State of Puniab with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”

Maninderjit Singh Bedi is the fourth AG in the Bhagwant Mann government. Bedi remained additional AG in Gurminder Singh Garry’s team. Senior advocate Anmol Rattan Sidhu was first AG who resigned in July 2022. He was replaced by senior advocate Vinod Ghai, who also tendered resignation in October 2023. Gurminder Singh Garry was the third AG who resigned today morning.

Maninderjit Singh Bedi belongs to Rampura Phul (Phul Subdivision) of district Bathinda & practicing at Punjab & Haryana High Court. He is the third generation legal practitioner in his family. His great grandfather, grandfather, father and uncle served Punjab as legal practitioner.
