Akali Dal holds candle march over decision to auction building of power colony school

The activists  of Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) led by municipal councillor Iqbal Kaur Makkar and former municipal council president Parmjit Singh Makkar took out a candle in march to protest against the decision of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited(PSPCL)to auction the building of GGSTP Model High School at Power Colony, Rupnagar.

Speaking on the occasion Paramjit Singh Makkar said that the people of Rupnagar  had supported of Arvind Kejriwal’s so called good education system and voted for his candidate.but after winning the election, he had betrayed the city of Rupnagar.

Makkar said that since the last academic session the Congress government had closed the school and merged it with the school 12 km away..Instead of restarting the school Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) government had issued tenders to auction the school building.

Speaking on the occasion former municipal councillors Gurmukh Singh Saini, Harwinder Singh Haveli and Councilor Charanjit Kaur Haveli said that during the Congress rule Dinesh Chadha, who is now an Aam Aadmi Party MLA, was also involved in the agitation against the closure of this school.

He said that now it was the responsibility of. Chadha to stop the auction and restart the school.

Iabal Kaur Makkar, Councilor said that he would soon meet deputy commissioner Rupnagar and representatives of the government in this regard.

Former President of District Bar  Association Rupnagar advocate Surajpal Singh, Balwinder Kaur Shampura, Surinder Kaur, Manju Verma, Priya Bhagi and colony residents were also present.
