“All vacant posts will be filled in power corporations and BBMB with regular employees” CM to PSEBEA

General Body Meeting of PSEB Engineers’ Association (PSEBEA) was held today at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala. More than 1200 delegates from the whole of Punjab, comprising Assistant Engineers, Sr XEN, SE, Chief Engineers to Engineer-in-Chief participated in the meeting.

Bhagwant Mann CM Punjab was the chief guest and Harbhajan Singh Power Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra Horticulture Minister and Dr Balbir Singh Health Minister were Guests of Honour on the occasion. Tejveer Singh IAS Principal Secretary Power and Baldev Singh Sran CMD/PSPCL were also present. Er. Padamjit Singh Chief Patron, All India Power Engineers Federation, Shailendra Dubey, Chairman All India Power Engineers Federation along with prominent engineers from northern states of Haryana, Delhi, J&K, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh also participated.

Er. Jasvir Singh Dhiman President/ PSEB Engineers Association in his Presidential Address  highlighted the achievements made by the two companies named PSPCL & PSTCL under the able guidance of CM Punjab Bhagwant Mann. It was brought out that one of the major milestones achieved during this period is to restart the Pachwara coal mine. Punjab is expected to get a direct benefit of Rs. 600 crore annually with the re-operationalisation of this mine. Er Dhiman while highlighting the achievements cautioned the Punjab Govt and PSPCL/ PSTCL regarding the challenges faced by Punjab Power Sector and requested CM to intervene and register its strong protest to Centre Govt regarding proposed amendments in the Electricity Act 2003 which are direct attack on federal structure of the country. It was also requested that subsidy to PSPCL be paid at time in advance otherwise there will be multiple implications like rise in tariff due to higher loans, non-conversion of loan into grants etc. It was also highlighted that some areas of the state have higher distribution losses due to theft of power and sought intervention from the State Govt. in this regard. It was suggested that power subsidies for those consumers be withdrawn who indulge in theft of power.

CM while addressing the gathering stated that all vacant posts will be filled in power corporations and BBMB with regular employees. He reiterated his commitment that there will be no privatisation in the power sector. He expressed his belief in the public sector and to protect the interest of Punjab in BBMB, regular appointment of Member Power in BBMB will be ensured.

Bhagwant Mann stated that he has issued instructions to govt departments to clear the defaulting of the power corporation and the pending subsidy of PSPCL will be cleared in a timely manner. Rail Sea Rail and imported coal will increase the cost of power for the state and will be opposed by the Punjab Government. Campaign to raise awareness against theft of power would be started by the state government.
