The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar has inaugurated a five-days All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy sponsored Online Faculty Development Programme on “Advances in Numerical Methods for Engineering Structures: Fundamentals toward Applications.”Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar inaugurated this online FDP. This online FDP is being coordinated by Dr. Sachin Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Ropar.

The online FDP is focused to impart knowledge and skills in the field of structural fracture and damage analysis using different numerical approaches like finite element method (FEM), XFEM, meshfree methods and phase field method etc.Experts in the field of Structural Engineering have been invited from different Institutes across the world to share their knowledge in the subject matter. On the first day, Prof. B.K. Mishra from IIT Roorkee delivered talk on the Fundamentals of Fracture and Damage Mechanics followed by Prof. Rajeev Kumar from IIT Mandi who gave a talk on Introduction to Finite Element Method. The final talk of the day was delivered by Dr.Akhilendra Singh from IIT Patna on Introduction to Meshfree Methods.
