Former US President Donald Trump said in a social media post that he was shot in his right ear at today’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The shooting, which authorities are investigating as an assassination attempt, occurred shortly after Trump started speaking onstage.

The Secret Service confirmed in a post on X “An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available”

The US Secret Service has earlier said that one spectator was killed and two others were critically wounded in the shooting. Their identities were not immediately released.

As per CNN report, FBI have identified the shooter as a 20-year-old man from Pennsylvania.

Trump says he was “shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part” of his right ear.

Politicians from across the spectrum offer support to Trump, with President Joe Biden saying “there’s no place for this kind of violence” in the US.

“I’ll keep you informed. And if I am able to speak to Donald, I’ll let you know that as well,” Biden said. “So far, it appears he’s doing well.”
