BFGI organized FDP on Food Processing and Technology

Bathinda-Department of Agriculture, Baba Farid College, organized one day Faculty Development Programme on “Food Processing and Technology” in collaboration with Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT) – A National level research, consultancy and training institute under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, (GoI) with Liaison office and Food Processing Business Incubation Centre (FPBIC) Bathinda for the faculty members of Agriculture Department. Dr. Valentina Chauhan, Assistant Professor (Food Technology) Department of Agriculture, BFC, welcomed the dignitaries by giving their brief introduction. The session was started by Er. Prathiba Singh (Assistant Professor), IIFT. She briefed about various projects and missions going on in Liaison office, Bathinda. Dr. R Jagan Mohan (Professor & Head), Department of Product Development, Officer Incharge, IIFPT, Regional Centre Guwahati, had presented PowerPoint presentations in which brief history of the institute, value addition of various fruits, vegetables, cash crops; ongoing projects, participation of various organizations and individuals, future planning for nutritious school mid-day meals were included.

Nearly 25 faculty members were motivated in the programme for establishment of small scale business & entrepreneurship using staple crops; fruits like grapes, jackfruit; vegetables like onion; post-harvest handling of coconut etc. and various queries of the former were resolved by the speakers too. Further they focused on how various technologies adopted by Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology that can facilitate the entrepreneur and farmers in doubling the income. Dr S.S Bal (Dean, Faculty of Agriculture) concluded the programme in the form of vote of thanks. Dr. S.S. Bal along with Dr. Manish Gupta (Dean Research & Development) honoured the dignitaries by giving mementos as token of love and respect.

Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman, Baba Farid Group of institutions (BFGI) appreciated the efforts of Department of Agriculture, Baba Farid College to organize FDP (Faculty Development Program) for faculty of BFGI by which they were made aware about the new trends and techniques of Food Processing.
