In a surprise move, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has called CRPF from centre government to protect their Patiala candidates fighting Municipal Corporation elections. As per available information, the CRPF personnels’ came early morning (at around 3 am) on the election day and each BJP candidate gets 3 jawans each.
Today, the election for MC Patiala was held in which 24 BJP candidates were in fray. All the 24 candidates and the saffron party district president Vijay Kumar Kuka gets CRPF protection.
When contacted the BJP district president Vijay Kumar Kuka he said “we had requested the centre government and the government provided 3 CRPF personnel’s to all the 24 candidates along with me. We have no faith in Punjab police as they failed to protect us on the nomination day and harassing our candidates. “ Vijay Kumar Kuka is one of the BJP candidates who failed to deposit his nomination papers for the elections. He is also the complainant for MC Patiala elections fiasco in the high court.
When contacted the Senior Superintendent of Police Patiala, Nanak Singh, to know whether the Patiala police had forwarded any request or asked the centre government to send the paramilitary forces for BJP candidates, he said “we had not sent any request to the centre government. The local BJP had demanded it. ”
When contacted the shiromani akali dal spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler, he said “it’s a sign of failure of law and order. Moreover if the centre had send the paramilitary forces directly just to give election day protection to BJP candidates than it’s a misuse of power, wastage of resources. The rules and regulations are violated”
“The centre can send the paramilitary forces if the state government sends a request, requisition to maintain law and order or they can send the personnel’s to any person if they seems to have any threat perception but with intimation to the state government, district police. But, here in this case neither the police have not demanded the paramilitary nor the centre seems to have informed the local police. The central agencies has already taken the 50 kms area of the state government and this new trend is not a good sign for the state. The state must lodge their protest and raise this issue with the centre government ” added Kler.
When contacted Patiala (Urban) MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli, he said ” we had already informed the state government about the presence of paramilitary forces with BJP candidates on the election day.” Kohli further added that the move shows the fear psychosis of the local BJP leaders. Former MP Preneet Kaur had levelled various allegations on aam aadmi party workers, district administration, district police before the elections. But today the elections were held without any untoward incident in fair and free manner.”
“Preneet Kaur and her team has once again set a wrong precedent in todays elections by calling paramilitary forces to protect their candidates on election day. This move of their is just to show heir relevance to their workers. Their era, time is over now as they have lost the MLA, MP and MC elections” added Kohli
Vinod Kumar, district president Congress Sewa Dal said ” this move of local BJP has shocked us. Who will bear the cost of deployment of these CRPF personnel’s to protect BJP candidates just for few hours? The government must charge the amount from those candidates who gets protection for less than 24 hours.”
