The Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections just around the corner, the BJP on Monday quickly dissociated itself from its Lok Sabha MP Kangana Ranaut’s statement. Despite this, the MP didn’t remove the interview clip from her social media account.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially distanced itself from recent statements made by actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut regarding the farmers’ movement. In a press statement issued by the BJP Central Media Department on Monday, the party clarified that Ranaut’s remarks do not reflect the party’s views and stated that she is neither authorised nor permitted to speak on the party’s policy matters.

“The statement made by BJP MP Ms Kangana Ranaut in the context of the farmers’ movement does not represent the party’s view. The Bharatiya Janata Party expresses its disagreement with Ms Kangana Ranaut’s statement. On behalf of the party, Ms Kangana Ranaut has neither been granted permission nor is she authorised to speak on the party’s policy matters,” the party said.

The BJP reaffirmed its commitment to social harmony and the principles of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” in its statement.

Ranaut, a first time BJP member parliament, who represents Mandi in the Lok Sabha, sparked controversy by suggesting that the farmers’ protests could have resulted in a Bangladesh-like situation if not for strong leadership.

In an interview clip, the actor-turned-politician’s account on X shared a video clip of her comments uploaded by another social media user. She was saying “What happened in Bangladesh would not have taken time to happen in India if our top leadership had not been strong. In the farmers’ protest here, dead bodies were hanging and rapes were being committed. When those laws in favour of farmers were taken back, the whole country was shocked. Those farmers are still sitting there. They never thought the laws would be repealed. There was a long planning, just like in Bangladesh. Such was the conspiracy … China, America, these kinds of foreign powers are working here”
