Book exhibition, special lecture organized at Modi College

Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala organized a special lecture along with a book-exhibition. Punjabi Department of the college organized this programme in collaboration with the Publication Bureau, Punjabi University, Patiala and with support of Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. A special lecture on the topic ‘Religion, Philosophy and Literature: an inter-contextual approach’ was also organized. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Harpal Singh Pannu, Chairperson, Shri Guru Granth Sahib Chair, Central University Punjab, Bathinda.

College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the speaker and said that religion, philosophy and literature are three main streams of knowledge to understand the human existence. Religious texts, philosophy books and literature are important to solve the critical questions of human society and its sufferings. Dr. Gurdeep Singh, Head, Dept. of Punjabi said that Dr. Pannu is an authority on Indian Philosophy and Sikh Religious consciousness.

Pannu shared his life experiences with the students. He motivated the students to read books thoroughly and said that books are the lighthouse of wisdom and knowledge. Citing many classical texts of poetry and philosophy he elaborated the importance of inter-contextual interpretations of these texts.

There was an interaction between the students and the main speaker after the lecture. Dr. Harpal Singh Pannu and Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar also formally inaugurated the book exhibition. This book exhibition was organized to provide classical texts on nominal rates to the students by Publication Bureau, Punjabi University, Patiala and Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.The vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Deepak Kumar.
