Buddhewal cooperative sugar mill initiative; 3 variants of Gur & Shakkar launched by Randhawa

In a unique initiative on the eve of ‘Lohri’, the Cooperation Minister, Punjab, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa here yesterday at Punjab Bhawan launched 3 varieties of FATEH ‘Gur’ (Jaggery) and ‘Shakkar’ (Sugar)manufactured by the Cooperative Sugar Mill, Buddhewal. The mill has commenced the production of high quality ‘Gur’ and ‘Shakkar’ (Sugar) under the brand name ‘FATEH’.
In his address on the occasion, Randhawa said that the Buddhewal Mill has started the production of ‘Desi Gur’, ‘Haldi Gur’ and ‘Masala Gur’. He also said that the production of valued added products of different types such as Brown Sugar, Refined Sugar, ‘Gur’ and ‘Shakkar’ is also in the pipeline of being started in order to increase the income of the cooperative sugar mills. Besides, the marketing potential of the ‘Gur’ and ‘Shakkar’ would be tested in the markets of Punjab and adjoining states.
Divulging more, the minister said that from next year onwards, the high quality ‘Gur’ and ‘Shakkar’ would also be exported to USA, Canada and the Gulf countries. Furthermore, the process has been set in motion to transform the cooperative sugar mills into the sugar complexes under which a plan has been chalked out to establish Co-Generation, Ethanol and BIO-CNG projects in the cooperative mills of Gurdaspur, Batala and Ajnala. Apart from this, a Sugarcane Research Institute would also come up at Kalanaur for providing training and high quality seed of sugarcane to the sugarcane farmers to augument their income and increase the yield per hectare.
Among other dignitaries present on the occasion included Chairman SUGARFED Amrik Singh Aliwal, Additional Chief Secretary Cooperation Kalpana Mittal Baruah, Registrar Cooperative Societies Vikas Garg, MD Milkfed Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, Deputy Chief Engineer Kanwaljit Singh and General Manager Cooperative Sugar Mill Buddhewal S.K. Kureel.
