The Punjab government on Tuesday said that residents will be allowed to burst green firecrackers for two hours on the eve of Diwali. This includes a blanket ban on manufacturing, distributing, sale and bursting of joint firecrackers, commonly known as “laries”.

As per an order released by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the sale and use of any firecrackers will remain banned in Mandi Gobindgarh and Jalandhar districts of Punjab from the intervening night of October 28-29 to the midnight of December 31, 2021-January 1, 2022.

Crackers will have to meet Centre’s emission and noise level standards and can be sold only through licensed vendors.  The deputy commissioners concerned will organise a draw of lots to grant the issuance of temporary licences.

According to the latest guidelines, people living in the state will be allowed be burst green crackers on November 4, 2021, between 8-10 pm.

On Gurupurab, November 19, 2021, they can burst green crackers from 4-5 am and 9-10 pm. On December 25-26, the window is 11.55 pm to 12.30 am. From December 31, 2021, to January 1, 2022, people can ring in the New Year by bursting crackers from 11.55 pm to 12.30 am
