CBI nabs IAS officer in Punjab in Rs 2-lakh bribery case

The CBI on Monday nabbed senior IAS officer Paramjit Singh, posted as the Director of Punjab Roadways, for allegedly taking Rs 2 lakh bribe for recommending the name of an officer for promotion, officials said.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Director (an IAS Officer), Punjab Roadways, Chandigarh for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.Two Lakh from the complainant.
A case was registered against the Director (an IAS officer), Punjab Roadways, Chandigarh on a complaint. It was alleged that the complainant was due for promotion to the rank of General Manager, for which departmental promotion committee (DPC) was constituted in January, 2022 and the Director was member of the said DPC. It was further alleged that the accused demanded bribe of Rs.Five Lakh from the complainant for recommending his name to Principal Secretary, Transport, Govt. of Punjab, for promotion to the rank of General Manager. It was also alleged that the bribe was negotiated and the accused agreed to accept Rs.Two Lakh from the complainant. The said Director, Punjab Roadways, Chandigarh allegedly threatened the complainant to bear the consequences in case the said bribe amount was not paid to him.
Singh, who was promoted to IAS from state services, will be arrested soon after the formalities and paper works are completed, they said.
CBI laid a trap and caught the said Director while demanding & accepting bribe of Rs.Two Lakh from the Complainant. Searches were conducted today at the premises of the accused in Chandigarh & Mohali which led to recovery of cash of Rs.30 Lakh(approx).
The accused will be produced tomorrow before the Competent Court at Chandigarh.
“The said Director (Singh), Punjab Roadways, Chandigarh allegedly threatened the complainant to bear the consequences in case the said bribe amount was not paid to him,”CBI Spokesperson RC Joshi said.
Arrest proceedings of Singh are going on, they said.
“Searches are being conducted today on the premises of the accused in Chandigarh and Mohali,” Joshi said.
