In a significant breakthrough, Malerkotla Police successfully apprehended an accused involved in a recent shopkeeper snatching incident. The prompt and efficient action led to the recovery of a stolen mobile phone and a significant amount of cash.

The arrested individual has been identified as 21-year-old Gagan Kumar, also known as Gaggi, a resident of Sangrur. His arrest was made possible through meticulous analysis of CCTV footage from nearby areas, providing crucial leads that facilitated his arrest.

Providing insights into the case, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that the victim, Mohammad Rafiq, was targeted by two bike-borne snatchers, resulting in the loss of two mobile phones valued at Rs 8500, along with cash and documents.

“Swift action based on technical intelligence and on-the-ground inputs allowed the police team, led by SHO Amargarh Police station, Inderjit Singh, under the supervision of DSP Amargarh Jatin Bansal, to identify and apprehend Gaggi,” SSP Khakh stated.

During preliminary investigations, the arrested accused confessed to the snatching and implicated his associate Jaswinder, alias Jassi, who remains at large. SSP Khakh emphasised the pivotal role of CCTV analysis in cracking the case and assured the public that every effort would be made to trace Jassi.

The arrested accused will be presented before a local court, and the police will seek his remand for further questioning.

SSP Khakh emphasized that criminal activities will not be tolerated in the Malerkotla district, and perpetrators will face stringent consequences. He urged the public to stay vigilant and share any information that could assist in locating the fugitive.
