Celebrations of Environment Day dedicated to Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib, at World University

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib celebrated Environment Day dedicated to Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib. On the occasion, the students were sensitised about the environmental issues and a tree plantation campaign was launched in the University campus. During a special function held at the seminar hall, the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Pritpal Singh said that for the last many years, the University is celebrating this auspicious day as the environment day. He said that besides the need of good environment for every human being, the tenets of Gurbani bind us in a holy bond with nature. Therefore, it is the duty of every human being to do his utmost to save the environment. On this occasion Dr. Harjit Singh Dhillon, a well known environmentalist from Chandigarh gave a PPT presentation on the importance of environment, current challenges and possible initiatives.

He expressed his concern that the manner in which the environment is being polluted has become an impending threat to human existence. He urged the students to make their due contribution in preventing air, water and soil pollution.

Thanking the distinguished and scholarly speaker on the occasion, Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, said that the University has set a target of saving and cultivating 95% of the new plants every year. The function was inaugurated by Dr. J.S. Bal, head, Department of Agriculture. He informed that the students of the department would be closely monitoring the plants being planted at the University. The stage was conducted by Dr. Hardev Singh, Department of Religious Studies. The Staff and students from various departments participated in the event in large numbers.
