Chandigarh police officials apprehended by CBI

CBI has apprehended a Sub-Inspector (SI) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Chandigarh Police in a case related to acceptance of bribe from the Complainant.
A case was registered by CBI against the accused ASI on allegations that the accused threatened the complainant and demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 1 lakh from him in lieu of closing a complaint and not registering an FIR against the complainant. It was also alleged that the bribe amount was negotiated to Rs. 40,000/- and subsequently the accused agreed to accept Rs. 10,000/- as part payment.
CBI laid a trap and accused ASI was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000/-. Subsequently, said SI was also caught red handed while accepting the said bribe money during further trap proceedings.
Searches are being conducted at residential premises of the accused persons in Chandigarh and Mohali.
Investigation is continuing.
