Chemical Blast Incident Near Dabwali – AIIMS Bathinda Responds Promptly

In the early morning of Friday, 30th May 2025, a tragic chemical blast occurred near Dabwali, leading to the emergency evacuation and treatment of multiple casualties. A total of 28 patients were brought to the Department of Trauma and Emergency at AIIMS Bathinda for medical attention. Of these, 17 patients arrived directly at AIIMS Bathinda, while 11 were referred from the Civil Hospital, Dabwali, following initial triage and stabilization. The trauma response team at AIIMS Bathinda immediately initiated triage protocols. Upon arrival, all patients received primary emergency care, including stabilization, wound management, and supportive treatment. Following this, necessary diagnostic investigations, including imaging scans and laboratory assessments, were conducted to determine the extent of the injuries. Twenty-one patients were found to have sustained minor injuries such as superficial wounds, minor abrasions, and soft tissue trauma. These individuals were treated and subsequently discharged with instructions for outpatient follow-up and home care.

Chemical Blast Incident Near Dabwali – AIIMS Bathinda Responds Promptly. Four patients were diagnosed with orthopaedic injuries, of which One patient sustained fractures of the femur and humerus. Another patient had a humerus fracture. These patients were admitted under the Orthopedics team for further evaluation and surgical/interventional management as required. One patient sustained a head injury with a depressed skull fracture.

This patient was admitted to the Neurosurgery department and is currently under observation and further management. Three additional patients presented with chest trauma and minor skeletal fractures. These injuries were managed conservatively, and the patients were advised to follow up in the Outpatient Department (OPD) for further evaluation and rehabilitation.

We are relieved to report that no fatalities have occurred due to this incident. The swift response and coordinated efforts of trauma teams, orthopaedic and neurosurgical departments, radiology, and support staff played a crucial role in ensuring timely and effective care for all individuals affected.
