CM City Mayor, MC Commissioner summoned by local court

A local court presided by Jatinder Kaur (Presiding Officer,Industrial Tribunal, Patiala) has issued summons to Patiala Municipal Corporation Commissioner G S Khaira and first citizen of Patiala-Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu following a petition moved by the family of a local truck driver killed in an attack by a stray bull on July 15, 2019.

The court has directed both Municipal Corporation Commissioner GS Khaira and Patiala Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu to appear before the court on October, 31.

Lawyer Sukhjinder Singh who has filled a case on behalf of deceased family said since the state government was charging cow cess it was the responsibility of the civic body to ensure that the city roads were free of the stray cattle.

The court issued summons after the wife of deceased Amrik Singh moved the court alleging due to the negligence on part of the Patiala civic authorities, her husband Amrik Singh was killed in a stray bull attack on July 15 on Patiala Devigarh road. He was the only earning member of the family.

Sukhjinder Singh said the court after going through the petition immediately ordered the summoning of the Patiala Municipal Corporation Commissioner GS Khaira and Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu for October, 31.

It is to be mentioned that in the last one month only 4-5 persons have lost their lives in stray cattle attack, and many were seriously injured.

On 23rd August many social organizations, students, media, political, NGO’s held a candle march in Patiala in memory of those individuals killed in such attacks.

Sukhjinder Singh said the records show that Municipal Corporation Patiala has till date received cow cess of around 4.00 crore charged by the state govt on sale of power, vehicle , liquor
