Yoginder Singh Yogi, senior deputy mayor Patiala said” from past few days Patiala was terrorized by stray cattle and to overcome this problem of occurring accidents I was given the duty by Maharani Preneet Kaur and Jaya Inder, daughter of CM Punjab . I along with Municipal Corporation and team of animal husbandry we caught more than 200 stray cattle from Patiala and sent them to Gaushala. Due to this exercise people are now relieved. In this process Patiala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khaira and Patiala DC Kumar Amit have played an important role.”
He further said that “we will keep a record of caught cattle so that the municipal corporation can pay for them from the cow cess collected from financial heads”
The gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that stray cattle can be seen roaming freely in the interiors of Patiala besides link roads, state highways, national highways and due to this five deaths have been reported from the city alone.
The local court has already summoned Patiala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khaira and Mayor Patiala Sanjeev Sharma Bittu in a case pertaining to a death caused by stray cattle and pertaining to compensating an aggrieved family. The next hearing of the case is fixed for October 31.
