“The Modi government yesterday on republic day showcased the supremacy of local and foreign corporates in the country and the government’s loyalty to them in a parade at Rajpath. On the other hand, massive protest marches were held by the farmers to expose the anti-farmer and anti-people character of the BJP government in the country and the world.” These views were expressed in a press statement issued by Joginder Singh Ugrahan, president, Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan). He condemned Modi government for murdering of peasants, repression of the people and arresting of about 200 persons by using yesterday’s happenings as an excuse.
He said that the incident that took place inside Delhi on January 26th, deviating from the program of the farmers’ organizations, had exposed the communal forces infiltrating the peasant movement. The attempts of communal elements like Deep Sidhu and the government agents to highjack the peasant struggle have failed. These elements were there from the very beginning for their own narrow ends and were never part of the peasant struggle. It was unfortunate that they continued to have the opportunity to infiltrate into the struggle.
Earlier, the failure to distance from them have resulted in the unwanted happenings as a small section of such miscreants’ broke barricades to march on the outer ring road. The infiltration of such elements could have been prevented by refusing to march on the outer ring road. He said that despite the identification of these elements, the peasant movement was lagging behind in the task of marginalising and expelling these elements. Therefore, it was unfortunate that they continued to have the opportunity to infiltrate into the struggle. All such communal elements and government agents should be identified now and completely eliminated from the struggle. He said that there was a need to divert attention from all kinds of misleading propaganda and to focus on the demands of the struggle. With these demands at the centre the line can be made clear between pro-struggle and other forces. No other government agent or other power should be allowed to infiltrate and we should focus on our demands and don’t let the focus to be diluted by misleading propaganda by such elements. He said that the non-party and secular nature of the struggle should be maintained and strict vigilance should be maintained to curb the intrusion of narrow political motives. This approach can be one common thread of struggling platforms that needs to be strengthened. The next step is to strengthen the unity of the organizations that want to lead the struggle to victory and to move forward on the path of mass mobilization.
