Complaint against Nabha jail officials by prisoner found false

Petitioner Balwinder Singh who accused one of the Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Gurpreet Singh of physical assault, in a video uploaded on social media, withdraws petition from High Court after no injury detected on Prisoner’s body in medical report. Balwinder Singh uploaded a video on social media on March 3, 2021 alleging grave misconduct and physical assault by officials of Maximum-Security Jail Nabha. Consequently, a Board of doctors conducted medical examination of prisoner, and nothing evident was found in his medical report. It has been found that the allegations were baseless, frivolous and were planned to malign the image of officers of prisons department. Hence, the petition could not stand before the High Court.
Balwinder Singh is a notorious criminal with 13 FIRs of heinous charges including Murder and Theft registered against him. He had to be shifted from one prison to another in the past owing to his unlawful activities
Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa further stated that, “we try to uphold the rights of prisoners and endeavor to provide them a conducive environment during their stay in the prison”.
