Cong, AAP join hands for elections, Ashok Wahi elected Rupnagar MC President

Congress Municipal Councillor Ashok Wahi was unanimously elected president while Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) Municipal Councillor Inderpal Singh Raju Satyal was elected senior vice president while Congress Municipal Councillor Neeru Gupta was elected junior vice president of Municipal Council Rupnagar during elections of the office bearers held today.
The election process was conducted by observer Rupnagar SDM Dr Sanjiv Kumar and no body including media persons were allowed to sit inside the meeting hall till the completion of election process.
The election of president was held following the removal of Sanjay Verma Bele Wale of Congress as president of the Municipal Council by the government after a no confidence motion was passed against him by the Municipal Councillors including Congress Municipal Councillors.
Sanjay Verma,who had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court against his removal,failed to get immediate relief on Friday paving the way for the election today.
It may be mentioned that posts of Senior vice president and vice president were lying vacant for the last many years,which were also filled today.
It may also be mentioned that Rupnagar Municipal Council had 21 municipal Councillors. Total 17 councillors attended today’s meeting .Sanjay Verma and lone Shiromani Akali Dal councilor Iqbal Kaur Makkar did not attend the meeting.One municipal councilors had already resigned.
Ashok Wahi thanked all the councilors for his election as president and assured that he would do his best for ensuring all round development of the town without any discrimination.

Wahi had already served as president of the municipal council once .It is his second stint as president.
On the other hand Sanjay Verma has accused Congress Councillors of back stabbing him and the party saying that he had met every demand of these councilors and God is seeing the same,who would teach them a lesson.
He alleged that Ashok Wahi had always opposed the Congress candidates in Assembly elections.
Verma said that municipal council had passed many development works worth crores of rupees during his tenure,but the government did not provide any fund for the same.
