“Congress party has finished Capt Amarinder Singh-Randhawa”, deputy chief minister of Punjab said these words, while answering the questions asked by the media, during a press conference called by him.
The hard-hitting remarks come from a onetime loyalist Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, just day after Amarinder Singh, in a surprise late-night move, announced that he will float his own party ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab and said he is hopeful of a seat arrangement with the BJP if the farmers’ issue is resolved in their interest.
Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Wednesday said “Captain Amarinder Singh is an “opportunist” and he has destroyed himself by announcing a seat arrangement with BJP, whom he has always abused. The Congress is not afraid of Captain Amarinder Singh’s decision of floating his own party and announcement of a seat-sharing pact with the BJP. He also accused Singh of betraying Punjab for the past four and a half years.
He also raised question over the staying of Capt Amarinder Singh Pakistan friend Aroosa Alam in his official residence, in all these years.
Randhawa said when Amarinder did not get the power he desired he got upset with the Congress. “Captain Saab has betrayed the (Gandhi) family that gave various positions and always honoured him. Had the Congress not given its support, he would not have remained the chief minister of Punjab for nine-and-a-half years. Now he calls it the worst party.”
Randhawa said “why now Capt is going to Delhi and meeting PM and home minister? Why he didn’t go earlier and try to resolve the ongoing farmers’ stir.
Randhawa also charged that Captain made the decision under some “pressure” since many cases have been filed against him and his children.
He also blamed Amarinder for the enhancement of the BSF’s jurisdiction in Punjab.”Punjab does not fear Pakistan or China. If Punjab today faces any threat, then it is from Amarinder Singh,” he said.
