In a first of its kind case reported in Punjab, since the inception of Coronavirus , a 48-year-old woman and her daughter (27) tested positive for Covid-19 in Patiala, around two months after their recovery from the disease. Even the health department is in dilemma, with the re-found of corona in their report.

Both mother-daughter duo are employees of State bank of India , but working in separate branches, live in Patiala’s Guru Teg Bahadur Colony. The duo is working in SBI’s Chowk Fort (Qila chowk) branch and working in YPS branch.  They were the first bank employees, who tested positive in May but none of their other family member was infected then.

Later, both of them discharged from hospital after their stipulated stay in the hospital’s isolation ward and they get recovered. They tested positive for Covid-19 again, a few days ago.

“As per govt revised guidelines, we don’t test the patient, who got discharge from the hospital, after their stay , as we use to do it earlier” said a doctor, associated with the Covid treatment. He further informed that the virus impact lower down with the passage of 7-10 days. It remain ineffective and don’t spread after 7-10 days.He further said, we must take all precautions to avoid this pandemic. The person who get discharged from the hospital, must remain extra cautious, as sometimes it takes time to get negative.

A health official said, “It could be due to non-development of antibodies in patients who recovered from virus. Still it is a serious issue. If the patients found re positive , it will be difficult for the government to control it. The health department is yet to check whether the patients had developed antibodies or not.

Corona re-founded in mother-daughter duo after three months; raises concern. District health authorities said, “We have informed the state government about the re-infected patients. We couldn’t find their source of infection both times as it is difficult to trace it in every case.”

District epidemiologist Dr Sumeet Singh said, “ we are requesting the residents to come forward for testing , as the cases are increasing daily. The testing will help both the health authorities and the residents, in curbing this menace.”
