Cotton Crop-DC conducts meeting for destroying Weeds

Bathinda-Ahead of the cotton cultivation season 2018, the Deputy Commissioner Bathinda Diprava Lakra convened a meeting regarding campaign being run for management and destruction of weeds that provide alternate habitat to the white fly pest affecting cotton crop.

Speaking at the meeting, he stated that for 2018, the government aims at covering 1.10 lacs hectares of land under cotton cultivation, which was 99000 hectares last year.  He added that similarly, last year the cotton yield per hectare was 850 kg lint, which is now being targeted at 860 kg lint per hectare.

He added that in order to meet this target, advance preparations are being made for which contribution of each and every department is important. He gave instructions to the concerned departments to follow the same suit as is being done for the past two years.

During the meeting Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Guraditta Singh Sidhu stated that the campaign was removing weeds was being conducted successfully for the past two years. He added that under the campaign every department was eradicating weeds in its areas.

The ADC (D) Sakshi Sawhney directed the concerned departments to submit their action plan with her office and seek labor under MNREGA for removing weeds. She also directed that daily progress report regarding weed removal be shared in whatsapp and through email.
