Countdown begins for imposition of model code of conduct

Ahead of Assembly elections in Punjab, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra will be in Punjab on a two-day visit from December 15 to review poll preparedness for the state assembly elections due in the state in early 2022.
As per sources, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra will be accompanied by election commissioners and other senior officers of the Election Commission of India, Chandra will take stock of preparedness for the state assembly elections due in early 2022.
In their two day visit, the commission will hold meetings with representatives of national- and state-level recognised parties, chief electoral officer and nodal officers of state police and central armed police forces and review poll preparedness for the state assembly elections due in the state in early 2022.
The commissions may also meet the excise, income tax, health departments to review poll preparations.
