Court granted bail to former Punjab cabinet minister

In a relief to former Punjab cabinet minister and senior congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted him bail in the money laundering case related to the Punjab infamous tender scam.
The court also quashed the FIR registered against him. Ashu, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on August 1, had been in jail since his arrest following questioning at the ED office in Jalandhar.
The case involves allegations of fraud and manipulation of grain transportation tenders in Punjab The matter was reported to the Vigilance Bureau, leading to investigations by the ED.
He is a former Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies of Punjab and a working president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. He represented Ludhiana (West) in the State Assembly.
The money-laundering investigation stems from a Punjab Vigilance Bureau FIR in connection with a tender “scam” in the Punjab Department of Food.
The politician was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in this case in August 2022.
