Covid vaccination halted in Patiala after PRTC-Health worker tiff; no outreach camps-PCMS Association

On July, 26, 2022 a heath worker of a mobile Covid vaccination team was allegedly thrashed by PRTC employees at the local bus stand.

After the incident, Punjab Civil Medical Services Association, Patiala chapter has announced that they will not hold any outreach camps (outside) till the matter is sorted out and a proper security are given to them, to the health workers. Till than covid vaccination will be available at hospitals, health centre only, clarified the association.

PCMS Association has also condemned the incident and demanded strict actions against the offenders. When contacted Dr Sumeet Singh, vice president of PCMS association, Patiala chapter said ” we won’t do outreach camps under these circumstances. We at the association level has taken this decision.”

“PCMS association has also extended full support to their staff in such a situation and will assist them to get justice” added the spokesperson of the association.

As per available information, a mobile team of health department had gone to the local bus stand for Covid vaccination. The incident is said to have occurred following an altercation over space for setting up a vaccination booth at the bus stand. Later  a verbal altercation between a PRTC inspector and Rajesh, the health worker, which turned into a physical face-off. The health worker was allegedly slapped and thrashed by the inspector and bus conductors.

Meanwhile, acting swiftly Punjab police has booked Sarabjit Singh, Sub inspector, Vinod Kumar and Sulhdev Singh alias Sukha conductor and 1-2 unknown persons under section 323 ( Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) , 341(Punishment for wrongful restraint), 160 (Punishment for committing affray) and 34(Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) IPC at Lahori Gate police station, Patiala.
