In order to ensure quality health services at the district hospitals, Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Thursday visited the emergency and de-addiction centre of Rupnagar where he issued the directions that Civil Surgeon, Senior Medical Officer and Deputy Medical Commissioner are 100 percent responsible for providing emergency and other treatment services along with medicines in all government hospital in district.

On this occasion, Balbir Singh told the officials of the health department that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan is committed to provide all categories of health facilities to the people of the state and next time he will conduct a surprise visit to the government hospital, after which strict departmental action will be taken, if he finds flaws in providing services.

He instructed Civil Surgeon Dr. Parminder Kumar to send a proposal to set up a critical care unit at the civil hospital, after which all essential treatment services will be available at the district hospital for patients in critical and sensitive condition.

While sharing the data about the policy drawn up to revamp the government district hospitals, he said that the Punjab government has released a budget of Rs 550 crore for health services, in addition to which Rs 195 crore has to be spent on medical equipment.

With the aim of ensuring 24×7 treatment services, the Health Minister said that 1880 posts have been sanctioned in the department. In which 330 posts are for doctors and the rest are reserved for staff nurses, ward attendants and other para-medical staff. This recruitment will be completed in the next three months.

Balbir Singh further said that the state government will start ventilator services in district civil hospitals of 23 districts, which will prove the beginning of golden era in government hospitals. He also directed Civil surgeon Dr. Parminder Kumar and Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Baldev Singh that the proportion of patients should be ensured up to 65 percent under the Ayushman Bharat Mukhya Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana in government hospitals.

Along with the Mahulla Clinics, the Punjab government has started Yogashala classes across the state.

On this occasion Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav, OSD/Health Minister Col. J.V. Singh, SDM Harbans Singh, Naib Tehsalidar Arjun Singh Grewal, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Anju, SP Tarun Ratan, DSP S. Gurmeet Singh, SMO Dr. Tarsem Singh and other staff members of the health department were present.
