Cyber Crime Awareness Seminar Marks National Cyber Security Awareness Month at Power Grid, Patiala

In recognition of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, the 400/220 kV Substation, POWERGRID Corporation of India Ltd., Patiala organized a seminar to enhance cybersecurity awareness among its employees and contract labour under the guidance of Paramjit Singh, Deputy General Manager is In-charge of the 400/220 kV POWERGRID Patiala substation. The seminar featured a special address by Dr. Abhinav Bhandari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Punjabi University, Patiala, who shared insights on the latest cyber threats and preventive strategies.

Dr. Bhandari’s presentation focused on critical issues such as digital harassment, phishing, financial fraud, and other cyber risks that are becoming increasingly prevalent in both personal and professional settings. Using real-world examples and case studies, he demonstrated how cybercriminals exploit technological vulnerabilities to deceive individuals and organizations, often with serious financial and reputational consequences.

Meena, Chief Manager, POWERGRID inaugurated the seminar and highlighted the importance of cyber security in today’s digital age and the POWERGRID’s commitment to fostering a secure and informed workplace. Other notable attendees included Rakesh Sharma, Deputy Manager; Kesar Singh, Assistant Manager; and Ramlal Yadav, Junior Engineer, Prakash Pandey, JE and Pramod JE who actively participated in the discussions.

As part of the National Cyber Security Awareness Month initiative, Dr. Bhandari emphasized the significance of educating oneself and adopting safe online practices. He discussed tactics such as phishing, where attackers impersonate trusted entities to deceive victims into revealing sensitive information. Additionally, he addressed financial fraud schemes that target both individuals and organizations, urging attendees to verify sources, be cautious with personal information, and recognize warning signs of suspicious communications.

Dr. Bhandari also provided practical tips on securing online interactions, such as implementing multi-factor authentication, using strong and unique passwords, and keeping software updated. The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing employees to engage directly with Dr. Bhandari and gain tailored advice on cybersecurity practices relevant to their roles at the POWERGRID.
