DC appeals farmers; bring your produce before Nov 30 to avail benefit of MSP

In wake of declining paddy arrivals in the mandis, the paddy procurement period has been modified by Punjab Government. Giving details, Deputy Commissioner Barnala Tej Partap Singh Phoolka said that earlier the paddy procurement during Kharif Marketing Season 2019-20 was slated for October 1 to December 15, 2019 but it has now been altered and the paddy procurement period would now culminate on November 30. He added that the milling period will remain the same and the Ministry of Food, Government of India has given due approval to the revision of procurement schedule.

DC further divulged that majority of the paddy arrivals have taken place which resulted in zero arrival in around 58 out of total 98 mandis in the district with meager arrivals in others. He added that Paddy procurement to the tune of approximate 8.24 lakh metric tonnes has been accomplished till November 20. He said that as per the 72-hour lifting norm, 100% lifting of the purchased paddy has been achieved in the district.

Reiterating the commitment of State Government to purchase the every grain in the markets, the Deputy Commissioner appealed the farmers to bring their crop in the grain markets by November 30 so that they may avail the benefit of Minimum Support Price (MSP). He also urged the arthiyas to inform about the revision in procurement period to the farmers associated with them.

Pertinently, till November 20, PUNGRAIN has procured 315990 tonnes, MARKFED 225780 tonnes and PUNSUP procured 209108 tonnes while Punjab State Warehousing Corporation procured 72323 MT paddy.
