DC issues instructions to Save Crop from Catching Fire

Bathinda: The Deputy Commissioner Bathinda Diprava Lakra today issued instructions to the farmers and general masses to save their standing wheat crop form getting gutted into accidental fires. Lakra stated that due to neglect, the hard earned crop of farmer ends up getting gutted in fire.

He said that no fire of any sort should be lit up in or around the wheat fields. If any of the farm hand uses beedi or cigarettes, he or she should be asked not to use the same in fields. Similarly, any kind of spark in agriculture implements such as tractors, combines etc should be repaired as early as possible. Before taking the tractor to fields, one should get it examined from a mechanic and the vehicle should be serviced.

Lakra added that the women working in houses located besides fields should ensure to douse out flames after cooking meals by sprinkling water on it. Any kind of fire can damage crops standing in nearby fields. He suggested that small ponds, water tanks etc should always be kept filled with water to be used in case of any emergency. He also advised that the change-over switch of transformers, standing in fields, should be switched disconnected when not in use and the crop standing just beneath the transformers should be harvested earlier.

He also advised farmers to not use power during day time and instead use the same at night only. He advised people to keep phone number of villages’ gurudwara granthi or head handy, so that any kind of accidental fire could be announced immediately and help can be sought. He added that people should also call fire brigade at 101.
