DC Patiala asks schools to adhere to School Bag Policy 2020

Deputy Commissioner , Patiala, Sakshi Sawhney convened a meeting today with all the school heads within the district to ensure compliance with the directives issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. She directed all schools in the district to rigorously adhere to the School Bag Policy of 2020, to reduce the weight of school bags and the burden of students
Sawhney emphasized that, as per the School Bag Policy of 2020, the weight of school children’s bags must not exceed 10 percent of the child’s body weight. Any violation of this policy could adversely affect the mental and physical health of the children. She stressed the importance for all schools in the district to diligently monitor and maintain the appropriate weight of children’s bags.”
In today’s meeting with the principals and in-charges of schools in the area, deputy commissioner also asks them to fully implement the Safe School Vahan policy as per the directions of the Supreme Court.
Heavy school bags are a serious threat to the health and well-being of school students. These have adverse physical effects on the growing children which can cause damage to their vertebral column and knees.
