Democratic Teachers’ Council (D.T.C) call for the elections of teachers at Punjabi University

A meeting of one of group of the teachers of the Democratic Teachers’ Council (D.T.C) was held regarding the upcoming elections in Punjabi University Campus. According to the university’s notification, the elections for teachers will take place on February 5, 2025, and the D.T.C group had serious and detailed discussions on various issues concerning teachers. The teachers of the group considered that there is a rule for conducting teachers’ elections in the calendar of Punjabi University, and the term of the last council completed on November 6, 2024. According to these calendar rules, university officials should conduct the elections impartially and should not favor any particular group.
It is noteworthy that the group of teachers has requested the Punjab government to expedite the appointment of a permanent Vice-Chancellor in the university, as the position has been vacant since April 2024. For the first time in the history of Punjabi University, there has been no Vice-Chancellor in charge since November 25, 2024, and the university has been functioning without a Vice-Chancellor for over a month and a half.
As a result, issues of teachers, employees, students, and pensioners are left hanging. They have been continuously protesting for several months to have their rightful demands met, and research work in the university is also stalled due to the absence of a Vice-Chancellor.
Thus, the D.T.C demands that the Punjab government immediately appoint an able Vice-Chancellor for Punjabi University Patiala so that the university can be brought out of this crisis.
