Discrimination in development works; harassment of SC people is intolerable-Mohi

Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes Member Chandreshwar Singh Mohi today visited village Liddaran to look into the complaint lodged by the families to the Commission for regarding discrimination in the construction of streets and drains.
On this occasion, Chandreshwar Singh Mohi directed the administrative officials that welfare work related to SC families of the village should be done on priority basis. After the investigation, Mohi on the spot instructed Panchayat to pass resolution to complete the pending work of the SC Basti at the earliest.
Chandreshwar Singh Mohi said that the Commission has taken the complaint of the residents of village Liddaran seriously and has sent him for the probe of the matter. He said that apart from the representatives of the village panchayats, the staff and officers of the rural development and panchayat department have been instructed not to discriminate in any way while extending the benefits of the welfare schemes being run by the government to the real needy.
The Member of the Commission also directed the administrative authorities to address the problem of borewell of water works in the village on priority basis so as to ensure the availability of clean drinking water in every household of the village. He reiterated that any kind of harassment of any member of SC Community will not be tolerated and if any such case comes to light, then strict legal action will be taken against the persons concerned.
