District Election Officer Parray urges political parties to adhere to election commission guidelines

District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner, Patiala, Showkat Ahmad Parray, convened a crucial meeting today with representatives of political parties to ensure strict compliance with the model code of conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Patiala.

During the meeting, political parties were briefed on the necessary guidelines for the election campaign, including the expenditure rate list for parties and candidates. They were reminded of the essential do’s and don’ts during the campaign period.

Emphasizing the immediate implementation of the model code of conduct upon the announcement of elections by the Election Commission of India, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the significance of adherence by all political parties.

Candidates and political parties were urged to obtain necessary approvals for all campaign activities through the online portal provided by the Election Commission. It was reiterated that all campaign materials across print, electronic, and social media platforms will undergo scrutiny by the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) to ensure compliance with the Model Code of Conduct.

Strict measures were outlined, prohibiting the use of government vehicles for campaign purposes and the placement of campaign materials on government buildings or machinery. Additionally, campaigning at religious places and any form of campaigning based on religion, caste, or sect were strictly prohibited.

The District Election Officer assured support for candidates, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to conducting fair, free, and transparent elections.

During the meeting, it was decided to relocate polling booths numbers 81 and 82 from the PSPCL office to the Government Senior Secondary School for boys in Sanour.

Representatives from various political parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal, pledged to adhere fully to the election rules set forth by the Election Commission of India.
