District Health officer inspects Gopal Sweets, Kwality Bakers, lifts samples for analysis

A team of health department officials under the command of newly appointed district health officer (DHO) Dr Gurpreet Kaur has conducted surprise quality checks of region’s renowned sweet shop and one of the oldest bakeries– issuing notices to improve the quality of food products sold to customers during the upcoming festive period.
As per available information, the DHO and her team did surprise inspection of Gopal’s Sweet, Fountain Chowk ,Patiala and Kwality Bakers, Anardana Chowk, Patiala. The team has also collected the food samples from these shops and sent for testing to government laboratory
DHO Dr Gurpreet Kaur has warned sweet shop owner, bakery shop owner to maintain cleanliness and take precautionary measures.
The health department action came after the recent news was flashed about the selling of expiry date bakery products during Rakhi and foreign items were found in the eatables at sweets shop and other eateries.
Confirming the same, district health officer (DHO) Dr Gurpreet Kaur said, “yes our team has done inspection, sampling of Gopal Sweets, Kwality Bakery along with other famous eating joints after the news about selling of expiry date food product, unhygienic food, adulterated food was flashed in media.”

A team member on the condition of anonymity said “Quality of various food items and their expiry dates was checked. Shopkeepers were briefed on the Food Safety Act, instructed to follow the guidelines issued by the district administration and health department from time to time, ensure cleanliness of the area, stock unadulterated items and dispose of products after date of expiry.”
