Don’t disclose Identity of Child Victim in Crime Cases-Pannu
Bathinda- Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission’s secretary K. S. Pannu thanked media today stating that plight of children involved in crimes comes to fore due to efforts of the media. Appealing media to adopt even more responsible approach towards covering crimes related to children, Deputy Director of the commission Rajwinder Singh Gill stated that no one has right to reveal the identity of children who commit crime or who are involved in a crime. Under the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and the POSCO Act 2012 there is strict prohibition on disclosing identity of such children in print, electronic or online media.
Giving further information in this context, it was stated that under Juvenile Justice Act section 74and POSCO Act section 23 (2) the name of child, his or her photo, parents name, school or residence address and other details, which may lead to the identification of victim, should not be disclosed. Anyone violating these orders can be award imprisonment from 6 months to 1 year and fine upto Rs 2 lakhs or both. He added that the commission has also organized special training for the police so that the men in khakhi are also aware of the intricacies of law.
