Dr Lehal appointed Director of CRAIDS,Punjabi University

Patiala-The recently created Centre for Research in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CRAIDS) at Punjabi University, Patiala, with the objective of undertaking foundational research in these areas got off to a real start with University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. B.S. Ghuman appointing Prof. G. S. Lehal, Director, Computer Centre as its new Director. He also appointed Prof. Amaradeep Singh (Computer Engineering) and Dr Vishal Goyal (Computer Science) as Centre’s coordinator and co-coordinator, respectively.

According to Prof. Ghuman, the multi-disciplinary research centre, first of its kind in this region, will have academicians and researchers from all the disciplines including Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Sciences, Social Sciences and Languages. The two new courses of M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at the University Campus will cater to needs of the students, who aspire to master the demands of integrating the synergistic disciplines of computer science and statistics, while the three-year B.Sc. course would be offered at regional centres of the University.

The long-term vision of the proposed Centre is to attain the status of a leader in data science research, where long-standing fundamental research problems, cutting across varied disciplines are targeted and solved. These programmes would be designed to meet to the rapidly developing field of data science and AI that are currently gaining unprecedented attraction in the industry as well as in the job market worldwide.
