Patiala Police, under the leadership of SSP Varun Sharma, has taken significant steps to combat drug trafficking. In a awareness seminar at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, the youth were enlightened about the detrimental effects of drugs. Supported by Power House Youth Club and Youth Federation of India, this event saw the youth taking an oath against drugs to curb their demand.
SSP Varun Sharma emphasized the need for society to collaborate with the police in eradicating the demand for drugs. He highlighted the Punjab Police’s success in breaking the supply chain of drugs, urging people to unite and eliminate drug demand, aligning with the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan and under the leadership of DGP Gaurav Yadav.
Labeling drug addiction as a severe illness, SSP Varun Sharma highlighted Patiala Police’s support for treating victims. He praised the Punjab government’s policy of considering drug addicts as individuals needing medical attention. Patiala Police’s efforts in seizing over 7 crores worth of property from drug smugglers signify their commitment to tightening the reins on drug trafficking.
Encouraging the youth to steer clear of drugs, Varun Sharma stressed the vulnerability of ages 15 to 35 to drug addiction due to peer pressure. He urged them to distance themselves from drug traffickers and seek police assistance. The helpline number 0175-2213385 of Saket Drug Addiction Center was recommended for those needing help, available at the nearest police station.

The seminar also marked the release of the Drug-Free Half Marathon poster, scheduled by Jan Hit Samiti for December 3, along with an anti-drug awareness booklet from Power House Youth Club and Foundation for Drug-Free World.
The event received immense support from various figures, including SP City Muhammad Sarfaraj Alam, Deputy Director of Thapar Institute Dr. Ajay Batish, Dean Dr. Inderveer Chana, Registrar Dr. Gurbinder Singh, DSP Sanjeev Singla, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan member Parminder Bhalwan, Governor Awardee Jatwinder Grewal, State Awardee Rupinder Kaur, among others.
Students from Government ITI Boys, Government State College of Education, and Thapar Institute, along with several notable personalities, also graced the occasion, showing solidarity in the fight against drug abuse.
