Drugs,mobile recovered from Jails, officials to be punished
Patiala-“The case of recovery of mobile phone or drugs inside the jails of Punjab would invite suspension of the guilty officer/official besides leading to stern action against the Jail Superintendent.” These views were emphatically expressed by the Jails and Co-operation Minister, Punjab, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa here at the Punjab Jail Training School Patiala on the occasion of the passing out parade of the 85th batch of Jail Warders. The minister further said that major reforms are in the store for the jail department in near future which would see the jails transformed into reform homes in true sense.
Congratulating the 148 jail warders, the minister said that this is a big responsibility on their shoulders and those officers performing well would get a commendation certificate as well as ORP rank. He also said that the main motive is to reform the jail inmates and their counseling would also be undertaken to ensure this.
Divulging more, the Jail Minister said that the appropriate terminology for the anti-social elements inside the jails is not gangster. Instead, gunda word should be used so as to not let the young generation being influenced by these. The minister also assured to soon send the 2 mini buses and an ambulance as demanded by the Punjab Jail Training School besides assuring to fulfill other put up demands soon.
The Jail Minister also honoured the jail warders occupying 1st and 2nd spot in various disciplines during training with momentos. He also paid homage at the martyrs memorial and visited the martyrs gallery of the jail department.
On the occasion, Principal of the Punjab Jail Training School Rajan Kapoor apprised the minister of the achievements of school and future plans. The newly selected jail warders presented one-armed compact show and a cultural programme.
