Enforcement directorate (ED) has arrested the former Punjab cabinet minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot
As per available information, ED has called Dharamsot for questioning in connection with a money laundering case related to the forest scam. The alleged scam came to the fore during his tenure as Minister of Forests.
After the questioning, ED arrested Dharamsot and tomorrow he will presented him in the court.
ED arrests former Punjab minister close to Capt Amarinder Singh. Also, on November 30,2023 team of enforcement directorate (ED) from Jalandhar had raided the former Punjab cabinet minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot residence at Amloh in Fatehgarh sahib district.
The five-time MLA was arrested along with two Indian Forest Service (IFS) officers in 2023 by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) as part of a case linked to alleged possession of disproportionate assets. As per available information his income from march 2016 to march 2022 was Rs 2.37 crores whereas he had spent Rs 8. 76 crores during this period.
The state vigilance had arrested Dharamsot in June 2023 in a corruption case related to felling of trees and other illegalities. He is accused of being involved in the illegal felling of over 25,000 trees. The Congress leader was allegedly involved in “organised corruption” in relation to the issuance of no-objection certificates, the transfer of government employees, and the awarding of permits for the cutting of Khair trees. He had been booked by the state vigilance under charges of the prevention of corruption act for misdeeds as minister.
