ED summons Punjab’s senior IAS officer under PMLA

As per available information the enforcement directorate (ED) has summoned Basant Garg, IAS and Secy Power Govt of Punjab-cum- CMD PSPCL / PSTCL in connection with the ongoing investigation against Punjab power, industries, local bodies minister Sanjeev Arora.
As per sources the ED has also summoned PSPCL two other top officials besides CMD. As per reports director commercial is among the two officials who are summoned. Presently Harsharn Kaur is the director commercial.
But when the PSPCL refunded the entire Bank Guarantee of Rs 1.97 Cr. on 3 rd Feb, 2026 that too without obtaining any revised BG from M/s Ritesh or cancelling the NOC issued against BG of Rs 1.97 Cr. at that time Inderpal Singh, director distribution held the additional charge of director commercial.
The law enforcement agency who is investigating Snajeev Arora under PMLA/ FEMA charges has asked the CMD powercom Basant Garg, IAS to bring the documents related to Sanjeev Arora’s firm and alleged favour extended to his firm. Both the officials are asked to join the investigation in the coming week.
Basant Garg, IAS was picked by Minister Sanjeev Arora in November 2025 as CMD, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) along with secretary Power by removing senior IAS officer Ajoy Sinha from the post. Sinha was on the verge of his retirement in November 2025 when he was removed and kept without posting till his retirement.
Even Sanjeev Arora had ordered the suspension of than director generation Harjit Singh and chief engineer GGSSTP, Ropar Harish Kumar on some frivolous ground. Few months later the same chief engineer Harish Kumar Sharma was not only reinstated but promoted also. But Harjit Singh who is one of the most honored, intelligent directors of the powercom was removed whereas the minister has recommended his suspension. Moreover he is not reinstated as he was also removed on same charges that were leveled against the chief engineer Sharma.
