District Returning officer Patiala Showkat Ahmed Parrey has issued a notice to Aam Aadmi Party Rajpura MLA Neena Mittal for violating the election model code of conduct (MCC) by using her cell phone to videograph her casting the vote at a polling booth in Rajpura on Saturday.

The MLA, who represents the Rajpura assembly segment, went on to share the video on her X account. Later, she deleted the post.

“As use of mobile phones is not allowed inside the polling booth and after the matter came to my knowledge, a notice has been issued to Neena Mittal” said Parrey.

Even, the shiromani akali dal has also lodged a formal complaint with the election commission. In the complaint akali dal said “ during the time of voting, Neena Mittal came to cast her vote, she had made a video of the same and uploaded it on her social media account. By making the video the said MLA had gone against the MCC guidelines which says that no video is allowed from inside the polling booth but whereas the present MLA did so. The panthic party demanded the commission to lodge FIR against the MLA.”

Ferozepur returning officer Rajesh Dhiman said a probe was initiated and police registered a case against the BSP candidate. His son, Jagdeep Singh Goldy Kamboj, is the AAP legislator from Jalalabad.

As per available information, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann had to wait for a while to cast his vote owing to the malfunctioning of the VVPAT machine at the polling booth in Sangrur.

Returning officer Jitendra Jorwal said the voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machine was immediately replaced. “Polling is going smoothly after we changed the VVPAT machine,” he added.
